Key Injuries - Week 10

The season is at the halfway point and lord knows there’s been a ton of injuries. This week we saw a lot of roster changes and a lot of QB injuries specifically… I’m not gonna guarantee you I have every injury here, but here’s some of the newer injuries and roster changes you’ll have to deal with in week 10.

RB Kolby Smith - Kansas City Chiefs - Out for the Season
Well Kolby Smith wasn’t playing all that well this year anyways, but now he’s not playing at all. He’ll be out for the rest of the year, and Larry Johnson is still being suspended by the Chiefs, possibly out for the year. Now the Chiefs turn to Jamaal Charles, which is a fine option and has been running extremely well this season. If you’re slim at RB, which most are, don’t be afraid to add Charles to your lineup.

RB Michael Pittman, RB Andre Hall - Denver Broncos - Out for the Season
It’s unfortunate that Pittman won’t be able to come back… considering he was having a decent season. Andre Hall won’t be as missed, he didn’t really do much. Nonetheless, both are out for the year and in steps the only RB who isn’t injured, but was earlier this season, Ryan Torain. He was very highly regarded coming into the season, then he got injured, now he’s back and he’s the premier RB. If you’re extremely weak at RB, take your chance, otherwise, don’t bother starting him over your studs.

QB Derek Anderson - Cleveland Browns - Benched
Romeo Crennel is looking for a change of pace, and with that he’s decided to pull Derek Anderson in favor of Brady Quinn. Quinn has gone through a lot since leaving Notre Dame, from not being picked until 22nd when he was supposed to be a top 10 pick, to waiting 2 years to get a start due to the emergence of Derek Anderson… it’s finally his turn. Who know’s how well he’ll do, he could be great against a weak Broncos defense. Only time will tell, the game is tonight, so if you don’t have NFL Network, tune into it live on NFL.com!

What’s the deal with Tony Romo?

Article Written by Anthony Pinzone
October 18th, 2008

Tony Romo could play Sunday against the Rams After news broke out last weekend that NFL All-Pro QB and fantasy extraordinaire Tony Romo would be out for 4 weeks with a broken pinky, all hell broke loose throughout the fantasy world, and the football world. The Cowboys have been the majority favorite to win the Superbowl this year, which many now question with the absence of Romo. The fantasy world has enjoyed much success out of Romo as he instantly sky rocketed the value of every offensive player on that team. There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that T.O. and Jason Witten and Marion Barber are all very good players.. but how good are they without their pretty boy signal caller? It’s yet to be seen.

Which brings us to the burning question everyone is now asking… Will Tony Romo actually play this Sunday? After facing much criticism from nearly every analyst about not playing because of a broken pinky finger, Romo was reported to have been practicing only 3 days after the injury and his teammates are reporting that he is more determined than ever to play in Sundays game. Now Wednesdays practice was to the surprise of coach Wade Phillips, however Phillips did allow Romo to throw again on Thursday, but then on Friday Romo was a spectator on the sideline watching fellow teammates Brad Johnson and Brooks Bollinger take all the snaps.

Romo has officially been listed as Questionable on this weeks injury report, and when Phillips was asked about Romo’s status, he refused to elaborate any further. It appears that owner Jerry Jones feels Romo will be ready to play Sunday, as he stated so on his radio show. However, he also said that it would be up to Tony Romo and whether or not he could deal with the pain. If he wants to play and he can deal with the pain, he will be a go for Sundays game.

Fantasy Outlook
This situation may be a big fuss in the football world, but in the fantasy world, its simple. Stay away from any Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks for week 7. Sure, it’s the horrible St. Louis Rams defense, and sure Tony Romo could end up having a stellar game, but do you really wanna play the 50 50 game on your team this week? First scenario, Romo has a great game and you are happier than shit. Second scenario, he comes in, plays a little, then feels he can’t go. You end up stuck with only a few points and you’re now ever so close to losing this weeks game. Third scenario, he doesn’t go at all and you’re stuck with a big fat ZERO on your starting roster.

How about the rest of the Cowboys you ask? Well I’m not sure if Roy Williams will be ready to go yet, so sit him this week. As always you’ll want to start T.O., Witten and Barber. Barber is a super start this week as he’ll be seeing a lot more carries with no more Felix Jones and a lot more catches with a fluff quarterback situation. T.O. will get his usual 8-12 points in a normal points scoring system, and Witten is always good for at least a score. Patrick Crayton is a little iffy, I’d go with another option this week if you can.

Tom Brady Done This Season… Fantasy Impact

Well if you’re a football fan, then you probably know by now that the Patriots record setting QB, Tom Brady, suffered a season ending knee injury in the 1st quarter of the Pats game vs the Chiefs yesterday. This is a huge blow to the Patriots organization, and an instant downgrade of most Patriots players… at least in the fantasy world. Backup QB Matt Cassel came in and played fairly well for the Pats, leading them to a 14-10 victory, and although Moss’ numbers were maintained, Welker’s dropped significantly, and all other Pats players were invisible. Let’s break down who will gain, and who will lose from this unfortunate situation.

Value Added

The Patriots Running Game.
Now that their all-star signal caller is gone, the Patriots will have to actually learn to run the ball. No more throwing the ball 30-40 times a game, so look for some added value to Laurence Maroney, Kevin Faulk and Sammy Morris. Deeper leagues should definitely look to add Morris, he seems to be the one they go to on goal line situations. Maroney will more than likely carry the bulk of the load, while Faulk will be the change of pace back, and the receiver out of the backfield.
