NFL Playoffs Fantasy Football Advice

Article Written by J.P. Correia

Sites like NFL.com are having their yearly NFL Playoffs version of Fantasy Football. It’s very fun, and different. Instead of having a draft, you can pick any player that you want, for each position. The catch is that you only have a certain amount of credits, or cash. Players like Peyton Manning and Adrian Peterson will obviously cost more than guys like Chad Pennington or Willie Parker. The burning question that everyone has with this is in the strategy. Do you go with a high priced, Adrian Peterson type of player, and than go with lower cost guys after that, or do you have a balanced team, with no overly priced players, but very solid ones at each position? I have found success both ways.

Here are some guys at each position that I will be considering for the Wild Card Round. Find the combination that you like. Remember, it’s not mandatory that you use every single credit that you are given to start out with. Unless you are about to go over your limit, I wouldn’t pay much attention to how much you have spent.

Week 9 Solid Matchups

Article Written by Anthony Pinzone
November 1st, 2008

Hey everyone! Welcome back for another tidbit of info about who’s gonna be hot this week! Week 9 see’s some really hot matchups to be aware of, including Chicago vs Detroit, Philadelphia vs Seattle, Arizona vs St Louis and more! Ok, enough chit chat, let’s get into it!

Quarterbacks

Kyle Orton vs Detroit Lions
Let’s face it, the Lions suck, bad. They’re the worst defense in the NFL and Kyle Orton is one of the hottest QB’s in the NFL. It doesn’t take rocket science to figure out he’s gonna have a great game. I don’t care who else you have, no one is gonna score as many points as Orton this week, so start him!!!

Donovan McNabb vs Seattle Seahawks
Jeez, this Seahawks team was good once upon a time. That once upon a time is NOT this year. They beat an equally bad 49ers team for their 1st win of the season last week, and now they face Philly at home. I don’t care where they are, Philly is gonna stomp them, look for McNabb to be huge this week!

Kurt Warner vs St Louis Rams
The Rams have been showing some spunk as of late, Warner will be sure to show his old team his spunk this weekend. The Cardinals offense has been unstoppable this year, literally. Their passing offense is 2nd in the league, and they’re first in points scored, being held under 30 points only twice all year! Warner is going to abuse this crappy secondary, so start him.

Jay Cutler vs Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins defense has been pretty tough as of late, but they’ve shown no ability to stop the long passing game. Cutler will put up some good numbers against a weak secondary, especially with both Marshall and Royal set to go.

Chad Pennington vs Denver Broncos
Man, this game might very well be a shootout!! The Broncos defense has been horrible and Pennington has thrown for 280+ and a score in his last 3 games. Last week he looked to last years first round pick Ted Ginn Jr. quite a bit and he’s expected to do the same this weekend. Great filler for underachieving QB’s and bye weeks.

More Solid Options: Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, David Garrard

Waiver Wire Madness!!! - Week 8

Article Written by Anthony Pinzone
October 24th, 2008

Welcome to the first installment of Waiver Wire Madness!! Here we’ll break down some key players who could possibly be free agents in your league and would most definitely be worth a look. Today we have 10 players for you to take a look at, some which may have been on a team previously but were dropped, and others you may have never heard of… so let’s get into it!

Dominic Rhodes - RB - Indianapolis Colts
Rhodes started his reign as RB off pretty slow in week 6, but bounced back with a vengeance in week 7! Rhodes put up 73 yards rushing, 2 rushing touchdowns, 4 receptions and 41 receiving yards! Not a bad performance for someone likely sitting in your free agent pool. This week he will face the Titans, which isn’t a very good matchup for him, however in week 9 Indy goes up against the Pats who have done their fair share of letting up rushing yards. I’d find a spot to stock this kid, no matter if Addai comes back, he’ll be getting carries.

John Carlson - TE - Seattle Seahawks
Well, the Seahawks team of 2008 is absolutely horrible, good thing for fantasy owners is that they have to have at least one person who can score, and that person has been John Carlson as of late. In week 7 he only made 3 catches for 11 yards, but he also had a touchdown, good enough for a top 10 spot among scoring Tight Ends in week 7. If you’re hurting at TE, Carlson isn’t a bad option.

Matt Cassel - QB - New England Patriots
Although Cassel played a Broncos defense that was without Champ Bailey, he sure did look good on Monday Night. His spirals were tight, his throws on the money and his performance… stellar. This looks like a completely different player than we’ve seen in the past few games, which could be a sign that he’s finally getting the hang of the system and fully adjusting to the speed of the game. He faces a really weak St. Louis defense this week, so look to use him if you’re hurting from byes, or add him to your bench just in case he turns into another “Tom Brady” prospect.

Week 8: RB Rankings

Article Written by Hawk32

Top 50 Running Back Rankings - Week 8

1. Clinton Portis - Was = @Det
This is the 3rd week in a row Portis has snagged the #1 spot. And it appears another 150 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns could be in store.

2. Thomas Jones - NYJ = KC
Jones has been the Jets most reliable offensive player so far this year, and a matchup at home against Kansas City should mean huge things for Jones again this week. 100-125 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns.

3. Chris Johnson - Ten = Ind
The rookie is rolling right now, and Indy’s defense just got embarrassed by Green Bay last week. 125 total yards, 1-2 touchdowns.

4. Steve Slaton - Hou = Cin
Another good matchup for Slaton and the Texans offense. 100 total yards, 1-2 touchdowns.

5. Brian Westbrook - Phi = Atl
If he is finally able to play, Westbrook should be fully rested and roaring to go coming off the bye week. 100 total yards, 1-2 touchdowns.

6. Willis McGahee - Bal = Oak
Finally posted a 100 yard rushing game last week, and Oakland is fresh off giving up 159 rushing yards to Thomas Jones. McGahee should definitely be in starting lineups this week. 100 rushing yards, 1 touchdown.

7. Frank Gore - SF = Sea
As expected, Gore finally disappointed fantasy owners last week in a matchup against the NY Giants. Luckily for him and fantasy owners, a rebound should be on the horizon this week against the Seahawks. 125 total yards, 1-2 touchdowns.

8. Maurice Jones-Drew - Jac = Cle
If he plays like he did the last time out….you better have him in your lineup. But with what we’ve learned this year about Jones-Drew…its either 40 rushing yards and 0 touchdowns, or 125 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. I’m betting on the latter this week.

9. LaDainian Tomlinson - SD = @NO
Tomlinson has been downright frustrating this year…but a good matchup against the Saints defense means he has to stay in the starting lineup. 100 total yards, maybe 1 touchdown.

10. Marshawn Lynch - Buf = @Mia
Unlike Tomlinson above, Lynch has been very reliable for fantasy owners so far this year. 80 rushing yards, 1 touchdown.
